1: Measure your opening

To start measure the opening, do so in multiple places to ensure correct height and width. Ensure the assembled pivot unit is slightly smaller than the opening, this will allow the unit to be packed square.

Refer to our website for SPivot door opening sizes

Use these measurements to purchase your new Hume door. Try our "Virtual Showroom" it is a great tool to help assist with your selection process.

2. Place Pivot unit in opening

Place your fully assembled pivot door unit in the opening. Careful pivot units are heavy so you may require some assistance.

Ensure the keeper plate(silver plate on top left corner of door face) is to the inside of the home

3. Leave transport blocks in place

Be sure to leave the transport blocks and spacers in place on the frame at this stage. This will hold the door firmly in the correct position during its installation.

4. Level and packing

Check that the pivot unit is level and pack where required to set the unit square.

It is extremely important that the unit is plumb, level, square and without twist. Checking the levelness and packing underneath the frame may even be required to ensure these important elements are correct.

5. Fix pivot unit into place

When fixing do not nail in the hydraulic closer area, this area is located on the pivot side of the head 300mm from the corner. (Should this go before nailing starts?)

Now that the pivot unit is plumb, level, square and without twist, it can be fixed into the opening. Using a cordless drill, pre drill pilot holes. To help eliminate the possibility of the unit moving, keep the fixing points close to the packers.

Fix off using a claw hammer and nails.

Use a hole punch to complete the finish when fixing off to avoid damaging the frame.

Repeat this process on the inside of pivot door.

6. Remove all transport blocks and spacers.

Check the unit is plumb, level, square and without twist, then carefully remove all transport blocks and spacers.

7.

Now check that the pivot door swings freely with the correct margins.

8. Adjust the toe of the door to sit flush with the frame

If the door requires adjustment this can be done via the top, with the door pivot adjusting screw. Open the door and remove perimeter seal to allow access, using a 4mm allen key adjust the locking screw.

Adjusting the locking screw will adjust the toe of the door to the frame.

8. Measure and mark stops for cutting

It is time to fix the stops, start by marking the stops for cutting

Cut using a hand saw

9. Attach exterior and interior stop beads

Using a builder’s ruler make sure the door is in the correct closed position.

Place the stop in position and fix off using a claw hammer and nails, the stop must be fitted to the exterior side of the closing jamb.

Use a builder’s ruler ensure the stop is straight for the entire length of the opening.

Repeat this step for the internal stop, the stop must be fitted to the interior side of the pivot jamb.

10. Check the closing and latching speeds

Check the closing and latching speed of the pivot door. The Hume pivot unit comes complete with an inbuilt three stage (locked open, closing & latching) hydraulic closer

Adjustments can be made by the regulating screws located in the hydraulic closer plate in the head of the unit.

Using a flat head screw driver adjust the closing and latching speed. Anti clockwise for faster and clockwise for slower. Do not adjust more then a maximum of two turns in any direction, doing so could cause hydraulic failure.

The closing speed regulating screw is located closest to the pivot jamb with the latching speed regulating screw located furthest away.

11. Fit architraves.

Attach your chosen handles

Measure and mark out for your selected handles.

Be sure to follow any instructions that come with the handle and when drilling drill from both sides of the door to avoid damaging door.

Final check

Check your door operates correctly and revisit any of the steps if required.

Note on removeing door if needed

Should the door need to be removed, ensure it is in the closed position and remove the keeper plate cover located on the inside face of the door.

Then remove the keeper plate with allen keys provided.

Using a second person to support the door gently tap the door away from the pivot point and lift out of opening.

To re-install first place the door on the bottom pivot point and repeat the entire process in reverse.
